About the role
This interview tests how you turn field and drill core observations into dependable geological information. The panel is looking for careful logging, sound sampling practice, evidence-based interpretation and the judgement to work safely around mining activity.
How to prepare
- Revise the features used to describe common rocks, structures, alteration and mineralisation.
- Practise explaining a core logging and sampling workflow from receipt through dispatch.
- Review how maps, cross-sections and spatial data support a geological interpretation.
- Prepare an example of finding and correcting an error in field or laboratory data.
- Study the basic hazards and controls involved in working near pits, faces and drill rigs.
Common mistakes
- Presenting an interpretation as fact when the available evidence is incomplete.
- Describing sampling without mentioning labels, contamination control or chain of custody.
- Treating field safety as separate from the geological task.
