About this interview
This practice recreates a feedback conversation after you have delivered a guest sermon. Ministry leaders may ask about the sermon's purpose, structure, audience fit and delivery, while looking for honest reflection and a constructive response to critique.
How to prepare
- State the central message of the sermon in one sentence.
- Mark the purpose of each section, illustration and transition in the sermon.
- Recall moments when listeners seemed engaged, uncertain or distracted without assuming why.
- Identify one delivery choice that worked and one that you would change.
- Practise responding to critique by clarifying the point before defending a choice.
Common mistakes
- Explaining every choice instead of listening to the feedback.
- Treating a personal preference as proof that the audience understood the message.
- Discussing delivery only in vague terms such as confidence or energy.
- Agreeing with every suggestion without deciding which changes serve the message.
