About the role
An MEP project manager brings several technical packages together and carries them through procurement, installation, commissioning and handover. The interview tests programme control, interface management, commercial judgement and the ability to turn competing specialist views into documented project decisions.
How to prepare
- Map the dependencies between design release, builder's work, long-lead procurement, installation and testing on a past project.
- Prepare an example of resolving a difficult spatial or systems interface across disciplines.
- Review how you assess scope, notices, instructions, variations and supporting records.
- Think through a commissioning sequence that moves from component checks to integrated demonstrations.
- Choose a stakeholder disagreement and explain how you secured a timely, buildable decision.
Common mistakes
- Discussing each service separately without showing how its dependencies affect the overall programme.
- Relying on coordination meetings without assigning actions, dates and accountable owners.
- Taking a position on a variation before checking scope documents, instructions and notice requirements.
- Leaving integrated testing, training and records until installation is almost complete.
