About the programme
A secondary school entrance interview helps the school get to know you before you join. The teachers want to see that you are curious, confident enough to talk about yourself, kind to others and ready for the move from primary school. It is a friendly conversation, not a test to catch you out.
How to prepare
- Think about your favourite subjects and be ready to say what you enjoy about them.
- Remember a book you liked or something new you learnt recently.
- Practise introducing yourself clearly, looking at the person and speaking at a good pace.
- Think of a time you helped a classmate or a friend.
- Learn a few things about the school, such as its clubs or activities.
Common mistakes
- Giving one-word answers when the teachers want to hear more about you.
- Learning answers by heart so they sound stiff.
- Being too shy to ask the teacher to repeat something you did not hear.
