About the role
This interview explores how you adapt nursing care to infants and children. The panel will look for close observation, accurate medicine checks, calm escalation, child-friendly communication and a respectful partnership with caregivers.
How to prepare
- Review age-appropriate observations and signs that a child may be deteriorating.
- Practise weight-based dose calculations and explain how you independently check a result.
- Prepare an example of calming a child or communicating with a worried caregiver.
- Refresh infection prevention, fluid monitoring and safeguarding escalation.
- Check the official nursing regulator for current registration and licence requirements.
Common mistakes
- Treating a child as a small adult without considering age or weight.
- Accepting an unusual dose without recalculating and checking it.
- Speaking only to the caregiver and failing to engage the child appropriately.
