About the role
A technical support specialist solves the harder product and network problems that frontline teams cannot. You reproduce issues, read logs, test configurations, guide customers through fixes and pass well-documented bugs to engineering. The panel is checking your troubleshooting method, your technical knowledge and how well you handle customers who are under pressure.
How to prepare
- Practise walking through how you would diagnose a vague problem, starting with the information you gather from the customer.
- Revise networking basics such as DNS, ports and latency, and how to tell a local fault from a service fault.
- Prepare a story about a tricky issue you solved, including the causes you ruled out along the way.
- Think about what makes a bug report useful to engineering and practise writing one.
- Practise explaining a technical fix to a customer who is not technical and is already annoyed.
Common mistakes
- Guessing at fixes instead of following a clear diagnostic path.
- Escalating with missing details, which wastes engineering time and annoys customers.
- Talking down to customers or burying them in jargon.
