About the role
Transaction services analysts examine the financial information behind a proposed acquisition or sale. The interview tests whether you can reconcile data, identify sustainable earnings and working capital issues, and explain why a finding matters to the deal rather than merely describing an accounting movement.
How to prepare
- Refresh the links between the income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement.
- Practise identifying one-off income, unusual costs, accounting estimates and changes in trading patterns.
- Review working capital drivers such as receivables, inventory, payables and seasonality.
- Prepare an example where you found and resolved an inconsistency in financial data.
- Practise turning a detailed spreadsheet finding into a short commercial message.
Common mistakes
- Repeating accounting ratios without connecting them to the transaction question.
- Making adjustments to earnings without documenting the evidence and rationale.
- Overlooking cash conversion because reported profit appears strong.
