About the role
This interview tests whether you can turn imperfect financial information into advice that matters to a live transaction. The panel will look for sound accounting analysis, commercial judgement, disciplined delivery and the confidence to brief senior clients without hiding uncertainty.
How to prepare
- Review how you assess quality of earnings, cash conversion, net debt and normalised working capital.
- Prepare a deal example where your analysis changed the client's view of price, terms or risk.
- Practise explaining a complex adjustment in plain language while separating fact, assumption and judgement.
- Think through how you scope a data request and track unanswered questions across several workstreams.
- Prepare an example of how you reviewed junior team members' work and improved its quality.
Common mistakes
- Listing accounting adjustments without explaining their effect on value or deal terms.
- Treating management forecasts as facts without testing the underlying drivers.
- Giving a polished conclusion while concealing important data gaps.
- Focusing on your own analysis and saying little about how you led the engagement.
