About the role
This interview tests whether you can operate safely outside the control room, notice abnormal conditions and follow instructions precisely. The panel will also assess how you communicate during alarms, maintenance handovers and routine shift changes.
How to prepare
- Review the purpose of field rounds and the signs of leaks, vibration, overheating and poor lubrication.
- Revise equipment identification, line tracing, valve operation and the importance of checking tags.
- Learn the operator's role in permits, isolations and maintenance handback.
- Prepare an example of following a procedure carefully while under time pressure.
- Practise giving a short verbal handover with status, actions, risks and outstanding work.
Common mistakes
- Touching, resetting or restarting abnormal equipment before making the area safe and reporting it.
- Following a verbal instruction when the equipment tag or procedure does not match.
- Giving a vague handover that omits isolations, alarms or outstanding maintenance.
